Dark Forces Demo Remake

Free playable remake of the 1995 shareware demo of Dark Forces, a game made by LucasArts.

Note: This is a very early build from 2019 that is using placeholder assets, some of which are copyrighted. This was uploaded by request and is free to download. The final build will not contain that copyrighted material, although it might have some in the form of SFX and music. Will remove by request.

The files are presented as is and haven't been updated since 2019. It's highly recommended to play with a controller. Mouse sensitivity is low and hasn't been tuned correctly.

The concept of this demo was to make Dark Forces in the style of Rare's GoldenEye 007, but with the look of Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II.

Development was paused to focus on a retro shader that will be used in the final release. The "Retrograde Shader" can be found here.

The current build in not using the Retrograde Shader. It's actually using a modified standard shader with some post-processing effects.

More work has since been added to the demo. Most of the environment is modelled, but a lot of work still needs to be done. Will post progress updates on X.

Some textures were modified from the original game, others were found online from artist Howard Day (I believe he worked on the new System Shock remake) and this website: http://www.sevristh.co.uk/

The two weapon models are from DICE's Star Wars Battlefront and will not appear in the final release.

I don't remember where the arms came from.

SFX are from Dark Forces and Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II. They will most likely be modified.

Music by The Evil Genius Orchestra. From the 1999 album, Star Wars: Cocktails in the Cantina.

Additional assets used were UFPS and the Darkbringer Retro Shader on the Unity Asset Store. Also, Free Rocks by AndrewAlexArt.

The Jan Ors portrait is of actress Zhang Ziyi from the movie 2046, by Wong Kar-wai. This is just placeholder. The final release will have more illustrated portraits.
